The Rothery Report

The Rothery Report provides deep-value research to entrepreneurial investors on select North American stocks. At the core of the Rothery Report approach is the search for bargain stocks that are both cheap and safe.

When it comes to cheap, a stock should provide a great deal of fundamental value for a low price. Stocks with low price-to-earnings, price-to-book-value, price-to-cash-flow or price-to-sales ratios are of particular interest. In addition, stocks with high dividend yields can be good bargains.

While no stock is completely safe, companies with little debt and lots of assets are usually the best bets. After all, low-debt firms are in a better position to withstand a downturn than are debt burdened firms. A pattern of earnings stability or growth is also a definite plus.

Safety is enhanced by avoiding young and untested firms. As a result, companies that are less than five years old are generally avoided and a longer operating history is rewarded. Similarly, safety is enhanced when a company is blessed with open, honest, and competent management.

The Rothery Report is dedicated to investors who take a patient long-term approach to buying deep-value stocks.

Open only to a limited number of subscribers

Some good value stocks don't trade frequently, but long-term investors shouldn't mind because they don't intend to sell quickly. However, newsletters with a very large subscriber base have to avoid illiquid stocks because buying by subscribers can significantly impact the price of such stocks.

If we start to notice a pattern of significant price changes after suggesting a stock, we will move to close our list to new subscribers.

Stocks can fluctuate

When investing in stocks, good results can not be guaranteed. We've made a few mistakes in the past and expect to lose money on a few investments in the future. Naturally, we'll try to minimize any losses and maximize gains but this happy result can not guaranteed.

Make sure that any investment is right for you

Always think for yourself and due your own diligence before trading. Many investors have special limitations or needs that may make some investments unsuitable. So, talk to your financial adviser before trading and make sure that any investment is right for you. For some people, it might be better to avoid investing in the stock market entirely. For instance, debt-laden individuals should strongly consider repaying their debts before seeking stock market profits.
